Criminal Background Checks

Effective August 12, 2004 school districts are required to perform a fingerprint-based criminal history records check for all certified and non-certified applicants for employment. Any individual that applies for employment with a school district after August 12, 2004 must undergo a national fingerprint history check before the individual begins employment with the district. The criminal history check must be initiated prior to employment, but the individual may he hired, and begin employment pending the outcome of the background check.

The Will County Regional Office of Education (ROE) is an approved "Live Scan Agency".

Fingerprinting is done on Tuesdays and Thursdays and by appointment only. Depending on the time of year, we sometimes have a two or three week backlog of scheduled appointments. Fingerprints are electronically submitted to the Illinois State Police and the F.B.I.

Our current fee for fingerprint services is $49.00 which includes submission to both the Illinois State Police and the F.B.I. The ROE will bill school districts monthly for fingerprint services.
