What are the proper procedures to use when signing up for the GED test?
BE A RESIDENT OF WILL COUNTY FOR AT LEAST 30 DAYS, 17 years of age or older (some age exceptions). Come in person with picture ID, fill out the application, and pay the $50.00 fee effective for July 2009 test dates. The $50.00 fee is payable by cash or money order. (no debit or credit)
How long does the test last?
The test is a two day exam, with a total of 5 GED tests and a Constitution test. Day one of the test includes the Writing Skills test (2 hours allowed), Social Studies test (70 minutes allowed), and the Constitution test (unlimited time). Day two of the test includes the Science test (80 minutes allowed), Reading test (65 minutes allowed), and the Mathematics test (90 minutes allowed). Math Part 1 with a calculator 45 minutes are allowed. Math Part 2 without a calculator 45 minutes are allowed.
How many points is considered passing?
A total of 2250 points, with no grade below 410 on any one test is considered passing.
How many times is a person allowed to take the GED test?
A person is allowed to take the test 3 times within a year which runs from January 1st of the current year up to and including December 31st of the current year.
How long does it take to receive the results?
A person will receive results by mail, within one month of the final day of testing.
When I receive my scores, how do I interpret what they mean?
GED test scores are reported in two ways-in standard scores and on percentile ranks. Standard scores on all five GED tests range from 200-800. A score of 450 represents average performance. Percentile ranks compare individuals' scores to those of a sample of graduating high schools seniors. For example, a percentile rank of 62 means that a person has done as well as or better than 62 percent of graduating high school seniors.

Do I have to take classes prior to taking the GED test?
No! If at all possible, we encourage you to use study guides, if you cannot attend classes. Study guides are available through our office for a minimal fee, or you may use them free at your public library.
What are the rules concerning missing test sessions and rescheduling?
If you miss your test session, you will have lost all credit with this office, and will have to come back to apply and pay the fee again.
How old must I be in order to take the GED test?
You must be 17 years of age and a resident of Will County for at least 30 days. The School Code of Ilinois permits 17 years old and older to take the GED Test given they meet these guidelines listed. 17 years of age or older, is not a high school graduate or GED graduate. If individuals are of school age and have been enrolled in a public, private or home school setting in the last 12 months, they must bring a withdrawal/drop letter from the last school they were enrolled in when they come to the office to apply for the GED Test.
